Investor Alert: Investigation into Former Truist Investment Services Broker T.S. Thompson

The securities attorneys at Halling & Cayo, S.C. are interested in talking to investors who may have claims related to the conduct of former Savannah-based broker T.S. Thompson (CRD# 2588490).

Public records, including the broker’s FINRA BrokerCheck report, reveal a staggering number of red flags. According to these records, Thompson has been the subject of 46 customer disputes, with many resulting in significant financial settlements paid by his former employers.

Who is T.S. Thompson?

T.S. Thompson (also known as T. Sloan Thompson) was most recently registered with Truist Investment Services, Inc. in Savannah, Georgia, from February 2021 until March 2024. His extensive industry career also includes long tenures at BB&T Securities, LLC and Merrill Lynch.

Thompson is not currently registered as a broker with any firm.

Serious Allegations and Employment Termination

In March 2024, Truist Investment Services officially discharged Thompson. The firm alleged that Thompson “either did not report or did not timely report client complaints”.

The nature of the underlying complaints is equally concerning. According to public records, a large volume of the disputes involve allegations of:

  • High-risk and unsuitable securities trading in managed accounts.
  • Mishandling of accounts and providing poor advice that led to severe underperformance.
  • Misrepresentation regarding managed investments.
  • Failure to follow customer instructions.

Massive Settlements and Pending Claims

Public records show that multiple claims have been settled for hundreds of thousands of dollars each. As of January 2026, there are 5 pending customer disputes still listed on his record, with one claimant seeking up to $5,000,000 in damages for alleged mismanagement of discretionary accounts.

What Investors Should Know

Brokers have a fundamental duty to provide suitable investment advice that aligns with their clients’ risk tolerance and financial goals. When a broker engages in high-risk trading or misrepresentation, investors may have a path to recovery through FINRA Arbitration. This process is often faster and more efficient than traditional court litigation, but it requires a thorough understanding of securities law.

The high volume of settlements and the nature of Thompson’s termination from Truist are significant indicators that a deeper look into these investment losses is warranted.
